I was perusing this week's SI about the Olympics (6 more days, yay-ah!), and it had a little table listing the top states that this year's U.S. competitors were born in. If memory serves: Minnesota was on top, with 31, followed not so closely by New York, with 19. So I guess there is something to be said for living in an annual 5 months of winter. Go USA!
Speaking of which, I seem to have frostbitten the tip of my pinky digit. Pisser. Mayhaps I shouldn't have been out playing hockey in the middle of the night last night wearing some cargo pants and a t-shirt. I should mention that it wasn't "exactly" hockey...I mean, Steve and his daughter were on skates, Clay (who was dressed in my fashion) and I were on shoes, and we just played small-sided on a frozen pond in the backyard with a couple of spare sticks. It was a blast, in fact probably the most fun I've had all winter. It reminded me of how much I resent my parents sometimes--anyone who doesn't know, I can't ice skate. This is clearly not from a lack of desire, but from a direct prevention from my parents, who knew that if I was allowed to skate as a kid, I'd have wanted to play hockey. For some reason that was unacceptable to them. I think maybe they should have moved us to a warmer state then, if they were going to keep me from the only source of joy I might have in the winter. Don't get me wrong, skiing and snowboarding are coo, and I have done both regularly, although not recently, throughout my life. They're not hockey (Kayla and Clay, I know you're with me on this). So I think next winter I'm going to buy myself a pair of skates and make someone teach me. Hell, Sara's a figure skater, so I bet I could coax her into helping me out. Wow, I might actually look forward to winter for once...

Skate on fella!!!
I am sorry to hear about the casualty of the little finger, maybe direct skin exposure in biting ass cold will convince you otherwise. Besides that, I suggest you continue your pursuit of ice skating. Remember that pond by the DECC, its calling your hopeless romantic spirit. I have taken up rock climbing here in TX. Since the availability of ice is you could say, limited. I have become thoroughly addicted, for more than the obvious reasons (if there are any?). Hope to hear from ya soon bud.
